Voters Overwhelmingly Support Fiscally Conservative Candidates

Washington, D.C. —The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste Political Action Committee (CCAGW PAC) today celebrated the fact that 62 of the 70 congressional and gubernatorial candidates it endorsed won election to office.  The 89 percent success rate included all of the endorsed governors and senators.

“Voters sent an unambiguous message that they want elected officials to hit the ground running to put a halt to the culture of wasteful spending that has gripped Washington, D.C. and the states.  They want their elected officials to fight for the taxpayers’ interests first instead of special interests,” said Tom Schatz, chairman of the CCAGW PAC. “And they especially want Congress to address the crushing burden of the national debt and chronic annual deficits.  All of the candidates we endorsed are bona fide fiscal conservatives committed to working to eliminate government waste, fraud, and abuse.  We are pleased that voters joined with us in supporting these candidates.

All endorsed candidates have been principled advocates for lower taxes and smaller government.  Incumbents endorsed by CCAGW’s PAC have received a lifetime CCAGW Congressional Rating of at least 80 percent, earning the rank of “Taxpayer Hero.”  All endorsed challengers responded to the CCAGW PAC questionnaire and signed CCAGW’s “No Pork Pledge,” indicating they will not request earmarks.

Some of the biggest and most hard-fought gains for taxpayers occurred in the election of Governor-elect John Kasich (R-Ohio), Senator-elect Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), and Representative-elect David Rivera (R-Fla.).  All of these candidates’ victories signal that voters support a new direction in public policy:  limited government, fiscal prudence, and free markets.

“As elected officials return to the business of governing, taxpayers can be certain that they now have more allies who will fight to cut wasteful government spending and decrease the tax and regulatory burdens on American businesses.  Members who ran and won on a limited government platform should be under no illusions; this electorate is awake, informed, and vigilant and will hold them accountable for their actions when the rhetoric fades and the real work begins,” concluded Schatz.

CCAGW PAC is affiliated with the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, a 501(c)(4) organization.  CCAGW PAC’s mission is to support political candidates who will fight to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in government and represent the best interests of taxpayers.
