CCAGW PAC Endorses Andy Harris for Maryland’s 1st District

Washington, D.C. - The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste Political Action Committee (CCAGW PAC) today announced its endorsement of State Senator Andy Harris for Congress in Maryland’s First Congressional District.  Sen. Harris is running against Frank M. Kratovil, Jr.

“Sen. Harris is a true fiscal conservative who has pledged to reduce the size of government by working to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse,” CCAGW PAC Chairman Tom Schatz said.  “He understands the critical need to end Congress’s addiction to spending and earmarking, and to encourage the private sector to grow the economy.”

Mr. Harris has signed the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) Earmark Reform Pledge.  The pledge features ten principles designed to bring increased transparency and accountability to the spending process.  His opponent has not signed the pledge.  In fiscal year 2008, pork-barrel spending ballooned to 11,610 projects costing $17.2 billion.

In his CCAGW PAC Candidate Questionnaire, Sen. Harris pledged support for taxpayer-friendly initiatives such as budget and earmark reform, tax cuts, a Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights, and the line-item veto.  As a state senator, Andy Harris consistently voted for a smaller government and policies that support economic growth.  Sen. Harris’s experience as a state senator proves he has the skills necessary to tackle some of Washington’s biggest spending problems.

Harris has demonstrated he has the ability to lead Congress to improve the future economic outlook.  America needs leaders who say ‘no’ to the continuing spending and pork-fest in Washington.  Andy Harris will work in the best interests of Maryland’s First District and taxpayers nationwide,” Schatz concluded.
