CCAGW PAC Endorses McCain
Longtime Porkbuster Deserves to be President

Washington, D.C. - The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste Political Action Committee (CCAGW PAC) today endorsed Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) for the office of President of the United States.

“Senator McCain is not just a war hero, he is a taxpayer hero.  He has fought government waste, fraud, and abuse in Washington for 26 years.  He has never requested a pork-barrel project.  There is nothing the big-spending politicians in Washington, D.C. fear more than a McCain presidency,” said CCAGW PAC Chairman Tom Schatz.

“Congressional earmark reforms and President Bush’s executive order telling agencies to ignore earmarks in report language would not have occurred without John McCain,” Schatz added.  “He fought a lonely and courageous battle against pork for many years and exposed the corrupting influence of earmarks.  These wasteful projects are now at the forefront of the debate in Washington.  In the past week, House and Senate Republicans called for additional reforms as more members of Congress pledge to stop requesting new earmarks.”

While Senator McCain’s national security credentials are well-known, he has long had concerns over the impact of pork-barrel projects on the Pentagon’s priorities.  For the past decade, Senator McCain has compiled a list of pork-barrel projects for spending bills and offered amendments to eliminate such waste.  His leadership on spending and tax issues is demonstrated by his Council for Citizens Against Government Waste 2006 vote rating of 95 percent, which was tied for the highest in the Senate.

“The key word in the presidential campaign is ‘change,’” said Schatz. “If the American people really want to change business as usual in Washington, D.C.; if they really want change in America, they should vote for John McCain.  The special interests don’t like John McCain because he has stood up to them throughout his career, and as President he will continue to fight for what’s best for the national interest.”

CCAGW PAC is affiliated with the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, a 501(c)(4) organization.  CCAGW PAC’s mission is to support political candidates who will fight to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in government and represent the best interests of taxpayers.
